All Smiles at the Power Play Pack Distribution Event at Cleveland Elementary

Today, OKCPS students from Cleveland Elementary received a donation of Power Play Packs from a partnership between the non profit, Cleats for Kids (C4K) and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Contents of the packs included bean bags, foam balls, cones, hula hoops, poly spots, scrimmage vests and assorted sports balls. In the coming weeks, the partnership will also allow to donate Power Play Packs at 19 other OKCPS schools--a generous donation valued at $12,000.

“We are so grateful for this amazing donation from Cleats for Kids and Blue Cross Blue Shield,” said Morgan Laughlin, PE teacher at Cleveland Elementary. “The brand new sports equipment will allow me to plan and execute engaging physical education activities that support the curriculum and keep students motivated while staying active. I am sure students will love to exercise with these items and they are already looking forward to all the fun they are going to have with the equipment!”

“We have partnered with Cleveland Elementary many times over the years but today was incredibly special for Cleats for Kids,” said Stacy McDaniel, Executive Director of Cleats for Kids. “We love having the opportunity to thank businesses like Blue Cross Blue Shield for their investment in the community and their support of our mission. We are so excited to hear how this new equipment enriches the existing program at Cleveland and hope it results in a ton of fun for these incredible students!”

“Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Oklahoma and Cleats for Kids' missions naturally align because we both care deeply about the health of Oklahoma kids and keeping them active,” said Brooke Townsend, Director of Community Affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma. “It is an honor to partner with organizations like C4K to make our community a healthier place!”

Coaches and teachers have reported that students who are active during the school day have more focused attention during class and perform better on tests. Cleveland students were also treated to a warm-up session led by Mikayla Darden of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon and Kids Marathon to show the importance of warming up before being active!

This generous donation will help schools schools enrich their existing PE classes by providing opportunities to build and develop a foundation for students to perform their best, both physically and academically.
